High-speed PLA properties
Data taken from 10 datasheets from manufacturers in Spain, Europe, the United States and China, reviewed on October 26, 2026. The shaded bar marks the median of the declared values and each colored tick is a different datasheet. The scales are the same across the whole library, so you can compare materials at a glance.

Meters of High-speed PLA per spool
Calculated with the median density from the datasheets (1.24 g/cm³). Real spools can vary by a few meters because of diameter tolerance.
What is high-speed PLA
Recent printers move the toolhead much faster than those of a few years ago, and the limit becomes how much plastic the hotend can melt per second. High-speed PLA (PLA HS) is a PLA with greater melt flow, designed to hold quality at those flow rates. The 10 datasheets analyzed declare speeds of 250–300 and the nozzle at 195–230 °C.
PLA HS compared with standard PLA
- More flow without under-extrusion on high-flow hotends.
- Slightly higher temperature when printing fast, to melt in time.
- Similar mechanical properties, with nuances depending on the manufacturer.
If your printer does not exceed the usual speeds of a simple Cartesian machine, a standard PLA works just as well.
Frequently asked questions about high-speed PLA
Can I use high-speed PLA on a slow printer?
Yes, it prints like a regular PLA. You simply won't take advantage of its benefit.
